History

The shelter was opened in July 1975 and named after William Pelizzo, Mayor of his town and the Senate. It died the year before that for a long time worked for the realization of the work that "will enhance this corner of Friuli and laughing Natisone Valleys ... But mostly it will be the point of meeting between the nations that inhabit different sides of the Alps ", as he said to 'grand opening' s then president of CAI Cividale John Pelizzo. Over the years it has been repeatedly expanded and improved to the current comfortable accommodation.

The shelter

 It rises on the grassland slopes of Mount Matajur (1641m). At about 300 m from the summit of this stunning location overlooking the Friulian plain to the sea. From the top of Mount Matajur. where is the border between Italy and Slovenia, you can enjoy a wide panorama of the Julian Alps and the dell 'lsonzo Crescent Valley, the Dolomites and Claut Zoldane to the west.
